Woman, 22, found hanging in Gurugram PG, mother accuses live-in partner of murder

A 22-year-old woman was found hanging from a ceiling fan at a paying guest accommodation in Gurugram's Islampur village, with her mother accusing her live-in partner of murdering her and hanging her body, police said.

The deceased was identified as Tanisha, a resident of Jalalpur village in Uttar Pradesh's Etah district. She was living with Chetan Sharma, who is also from Etah district, at the PG in Sector 38. Tanisha called him while he was at work, but he could not answer as he was busy.

When Sharma called her back later, she did not respond. After repeated calls went unanswered, he asked their neighbour, Anuj, to check on her, police said.

Anuj allegedly found Tanisha hanging from the ceiling fan when he looked through the window. The door was locked from inside. The police were subsequently informed and Tanisha's family members were called.

Her mother later submitted a written complaint accusing Chetan of murdering Tanisha and hanging her body. The family has alleged that Tanisha was killed and that her death was made to look like a hanging.

The allegations have led police to investigate the circumstances surrounding Tanisha's death. Her sister, who also lives in Gurugram, said she had spoken to Tanisha normally the night before the incident and that she appeared to be fine.

The family also said they were not previously aware that Tanisha was living with Chetan, adding another point being examined in the case.

Police took Tanisha's body into custody and sent it for a post-mortem examination conducted by a board of doctors. The body was later handed over to her family.

Sadar police station SHO Inspector Mohan said the case appeared to be a suicide at first glance. However, police are also thoroughly investigating the family's allegation that Tanisha was murdered.

"Further action will be taken based on the family's complaint and the post-mortem report. We are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter," the officer said.
