The story so far: The Bihar government on Wednesday (November 4, 2026) imposed new regulations for school teachers, non-teaching staffs and students instructing them not to make or upload reels on social media without permission from concerned authorities. A week back on October 30, 2026, the Department had also enforced a formal dress code for them. The condition of government schools in Bihar, of late, had hit national headlines and subsequently, has caused major embarrassment for the State government.
Bihar has approximately over 76,000 government schools out of which 47,000 are primary schools, 25,000 are upper primary and around 5,000 are higher secondary schools. There are about 6.6 lakh government school teachers employed in all these schools. Recently, as the new BJP-led NDA government came to power in the State, the government took initiative to paint all (551) government-model schools with saffron colour saying they would be equipped with all modern facilities for the students studying there.
