Who Is Dr Rachel Danis? Patrick Clancy’s New Wife - Newsweek

Dr. Rachel Danis is back in the spotlight after giving her first in-depth interview alongside her husband, Patrick Clancy, the ex-husband of Lindsay Clancy.

In a 60 Minutes interview that aired on CBS News on Sunday, Danis, 37, defended Patrick Clancy, saying she wanted people to know that he is “the most selfless father and supportive partner.”

The couple met in January 2024 at a run club in New York, after Clancy had moved to Manhattan before following the death of his children Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and 8-month-old Callan the year before. Clancy came home from carrying out an errand to find Cora and Dawson strangled to death - Callan died four days later.

Their mother, a 36-year-old former labor and delivery nurse, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of her children. She pleaded not guilty, with her defense attorney arguing that postpartum psychosis had left her not criminally responsible for their deaths. The 12 jurors deliberated for seven days but failed to reach a unanimous verdict, leading Judge William Sullivan to declare a mistrial in early September.

Since the start of the trial, Patrick Clancy has come under scrutiny online with conspiracy theories, which ranged from how he treated his wife, to him being the killer of his children, going viral.

His marriage to Danis in April this year has also attracted criticism, thrusting her private life into public view. Newsweek has broken down what we know about Danis below.

Danis is a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist at a hospital in New York, where she has worked for the last four years, according to her LinkedIn profile shows. Before that she worked at a women’s fertility and health company that focuses on accessibility and affordability.

Between 2006 and 2021, Danis completed her qualifications at several different universities and hospitals. Danis earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from New York’s Barnard College in 2010 before receiving her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 2014. She then completed an obstetrics and gynecology residency at Drexel-affiliated Hahnemann University Hospital in 2018.

Danis completed a three-year fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the University of Southern California from June 2018 to June 2021. During her fellowship, she also earned a master’s degree in biochemical and translational research, completing the program in August 2020.

Danis’s faculty biography says she “has contributed significantly to advancing fertility treatments, publishing multiple peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals.”

It also describes Danis as a “dedicated educator and researcher” who presents her research at national conferences and “works closely with medical students.”

After the couple met at a run club, they got to know each other over coffee, she told CBS News.

“Pat pulls out his phone to pay and I notice this adorable photo of children as the wallpaper and I just asked ‘who are those cuties’ and Pat had said ‘those are my kids’ and then I think I asked if they lived in Massachusetts and Pat said ‘they died’ and this is just at the cashier,” she told correspondent Ross Douthat.

Addressing the criticism directed at the couple, Danis said: “I was just a girl that met a guy running in Central Park on a really cold Saturday.”

The pair continued running together and got married earlier this year at the Ladies Pavilion in Central Park, according to the New York Post.

Clancy said Danis helps him “carry [the] grief” he feels for his children. "My life has changed since I met Rachel in such a positive way," he said.

Danis added: "I can't bring his kids back. But if I can honor them and allow Pat to grieve but also just continue to honor them in the present, it—I guess that's all I can do."

The couple also revealed that they plan to start a new family together. "I can't wait to tell them about their brothers and sister,” Clancy said.

Danis, is fluent in Spanish and has a background in competitive figure skating, her faculty profile says.

Her hobbies also include Barry's Bootcamp classes, ballet classes and baking, according to her profile on Zocdoc, an online healthcare directory and appointment-booking platform.
