What we learned from New York Giants' 12-7 win over Tennessee Titans - Giants Wire
The New York Giants advanced to 2-1 on the season, their best start since 2022, with a 12-7 win over the Tennessee Titans at MetLife Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Here's what we learned from the win.
Last year, the Giants would have lost this game. They lost five games in the fourth quarter last season. On Sunday, Brian Daboll was on the other sideline, so the Giants caught a break. They led the whole game and sealed it when safety Jevon Holland intercepted a lame-duck pass from Cam Ward in the end zone with 24 seconds remaining.
For the second week in a row, the Giants lost a foundational player to a knee injury. Last week, it was quarterback Jaxson Dart. This week it was Pro Bowl outside linebacker Brian Burns. Head coach John Harbaugh did not know the extent of the injury after the game, but the feeling around the building was ominous. His optimistic mantra is, and will continue to be, tested all year long.
Rookie right guard Francis Mauigoa is off to a solid start in his NFL career, but the Giants are still not winning consistently in the trenches. That can only mean that center John Michael Schmitz and left guard Jon Runyan Jr. aren't getting it done. On Sunday, Titans All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons dominated the Giants' line, disrupting an already shaky offensive operation.
Jameis Winston looked a little rusty again, and the weather was terrible, but there was no mistaking the fact that the Giants are struggling on offense. They went four for 13 on third down and made only two trips into the red zone. They had just 118 yards passing and failed to score a touchdown for the second straight week.
