WC top cop establishes multi-disciplinary team to probe Lwandle mass shooting - EWN

Newly-appointed Western Cape Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Sizakhele Dyantyi has established a multi-disciplinary team led by Serious Violent Crime detectives to investigate a mass shooting in which ten people were killed.

Early on Sunday morning, just before 2am, two gunmen came through the back of a shishanyama in Lwandle, Strand, and randomly started shooting at patrons. Eight men and two women were killed. 

Dyantyi later told the media on the scene that initial indications, from the owner of the business, were that the shooting could have been motivated by business rivals in the area.

Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said, "No arrests have been effected yet, and police have increased deployments in the area."
