Enough is enough! I don’t want to see another hashtag, banner or demonstration against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) in South Africa. Countless clarion calls have been made to upend this horrific fad over the years.

The scourge has, once again, reared its ugly head in the country. Oddly enough, GBVF was classified as a national disaster on 21 November 2025, but no tangible or substantive action has backed the declaration to date. WOMEN’S FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT TO LIVE DENIED On Tuesday morning, 15 September 2026, we received an alert of the discovery of a sixth woman in KwaThema, in the City of Ekurhuleni. This came hot on the heels of the discovery of another woman’s body dumped on the side of the road in Olifantsfontein on the previous day, also on the East Rand, sending shockwaves, setting in panic, fury and opening a never-healing wound due to the bane of GBVF.
