Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif turned his address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York into yet another attempt to amplify Islamabad’s narrative on the 2025 conflict with India.

However, an Indian diplomat’s dismissive smirk appeared to sum up New Delhi’s response to the rhetoric. Cameras present there captured the moment, which has since gone viral on social media.

India had launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 last year, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which had claimed the lives of 26 civilians.

Heaping praise on Pakistan's military, Sharif said its personnel "responded with precision and professionalism" to India's strikes.

"They silenced the enemy, repulsed its attack and taught it a lesson it shall never, ever forget," he said, framing Pakistan's response to the Indian operation as a military success.

At that very moment, the camera cut to R Srinivas, a member of India's delegation, who was seen shaking his head and wearing a visibly dismissive smirk.

In his speech, Sharif also thanked US President Donald Trump for his "resolute and visionary leadership", saying that his "timely intervention" saved hundreds of millions of lives in South Asia, referring to the ceasefire that halted the conflict between India and Pakistan.

While the American leader has repeatedly claimed, as recently as in his address to the UN General Assembly this week, that he stopped the war between India and Pakistan. New Delhi has consistently denied any third-party intervention.- Ends(With inputs from PTI)
