Video: Man pulls wife's hair, tries to choke her in UP court premises, gets slapped
There was a huge drama to witness in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj where a physical altercation between a woman and her husband broke out inside the Family Court complex shortly after a hearing in their ongoing family dispute concluded, turning the court premises into a scene of chaos.
A video showing the confrontation, including punches and slaps exchanged between the parties and their relatives, has surfaced online and gone viral. Police have registered a case against the two and arrested both accused, officials said.
The incident took place on September 24 at the Family Court in Maharajganj district headquarters, where the couple had appeared in connection with a maintenance case.
Priya Tripathi, a resident of Samardhira, is married to Manish Kumar Mishra of Koiladad. The couple has reportedly been involved in a dispute since shortly after their marriage.
According to information, the hearing was scheduled for September 24 and began with the testimony of Priya’s father, Laxmikant, at around 2 pm.
After the proceedings, Priya, her sister Priyanka and their father left the courtroom and reached the ground-floor hall. It was there that the confrontation reportedly began.
Priya has alleged that Manish and another man accompanying him approached them and assaulted her.
According to her complaint, Manish grabbed her by the hair and attacked her, while she was also knocked to the ground and allegedly subjected to an attempt to strangle her. When her father and sister intervened, they too were allegedly assaulted.
The incident soon escalated, with members of both sides becoming involved in the physical confrontation.
A man accompanying Priya was seen in the video slapping Manish across the face after the assault on the woman. The footage captures the parties trading blows and slaps inside the court complex, drawing attention from people present at the premises.
Police personnel deployed at the court complex rushed to the spot after hearing the commotion and intervened to bring the situation under control.
The video of the altercation subsequently spread across social media platforms, bringing the incident into wider public view.
Priya has also alleged that she received death threats after pursuing the case. She later approached the Kotwali police and submitted a complaint seeking action against those allegedly involved in the assault.
Dharmendra Singh, Station House Officer of Kotwali Maharajganj, stated that a case has been registered against two accused individuals in connection with the assault at the court complex, and both have been arrested. "The police are investigating the matter," he said.
The incident has brought renewed attention to the dispute between the couple, which is already pending before the Family Court.
With the arrests made, the police investigation is expected to establish the sequence of events, examine the allegations raised by the woman and determine the circumstances surrounding the clash inside the court premises.- Ends
