Tourists enjoy their vacation time on Kamala beach of Phuket last year. Molpasorn Shoowong PHUKET: Five hotels in the province have been ordered to suspend operations temporarily after authorities found that they failed to obtain licences and meet improvement requirements.
Deputy Phuket Governor Romdon Haji Awae said on Saturday that the closures were imposed last week after hotel operators failed to make the necessary improvements, even after being given extra time.
The province had given unlicensed hotels or those with structural problems 30 days to address physical deficiencies, Mr Romdon said.
Meanwhile, another 40 hotels remain under consideration for licence renewals, with some lacking key documents such as environmental impact assessment reports or structural safety certificates, he said.
These hotels have different deadlines and are on completely separate regulatory tracks. The province expects operators to submit their documents by October.
