A Ukrainian media outlet says it was targeted by a cyberattack that disrupted its website and led to fake emails being sent to some readers.

The Kyiv Independent said the attack took place on Wednesday. The website became temporarily unavailable, and four emails containing false claims in Russian and English were sent out.

The outlet says the emails claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had launched a nuclear warhead toward Kyiv as "proof of friendship" after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin. It says the content of the emails suggest the operation was carried out by Russia.

It says, "Attacks like these are part of the war we cover every day - an attempt to sow confusion and erode trust." The outlet added that information such as readers' bank account details was not compromised.

Ukraine has seen another cyberattack in recent days. On Sunday, false notifications were sent through an app that sends air raid warnings. The attack was likely intended to cause public confusion as Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues.
