Police will provide an update on the two bodies found in two separate burning cars in Scarborough this afternoon.

Two people were killed before being burned in cars on opposite ends of the city, roughly 90 minutes apart, earlier this week, Toronto police revealed on Friday, as its homicide investigators continue to look into whether the two deaths are connected.

“Both bodies were badly burnt,” Det. Sgt. Henri Marsman said, adding that both incidents appear to be “targeted.” 

Marcus Charles, 32, was found dead in a rental vehicle while police said the vehicle found in the westend homicide was stolen. He was identified via fingerprints that were already in the police database, Marsman added.

Police said both victims were shot and killed before they were burned. Police said the condition of the bodies was causing some issues with the identification of the “second victim because we’re going to have to wait for some DNA analysis, which can take time.” Police are still trying to pinpoint where the second victim is from.

Police said the second unidentified victim is also male.

When asked if police found any links to organized crime, he said “it’s still in the early stages of the investigation, and we are exploring all links.”
