Three dead after news helicopter covering bus accident crashes in Los Angeles

At least three people died after a news helicopter crashed into a parking lot in Los Angeles, according to officials and local media reports.

The helicopter was reportedly operating near a fatal bus crash and went down between two commercial buildings in the Chatsworth neighborhood, a Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) spokesperson said.

Four people were assessed at the scene, with one person transported to a local hospital in an unknown condition while three others were pronounced dead on the scene, according to the fire department.

The helicopter crash happened after a vehicle collision in the area in which a Los Angeles Metro bus ‌and a passenger vehicle met with an accident, killing at least two people.

Footage from the scene showed two shipping containers and several vehicles burning and firefighters working to douse the blaze, which has been extinguished.

The helicopter involved in the crash was a television news helicopter covering the bus collision, according to several media reports. Several TV news helicopters have been in the area reporting on the bus collision.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said she was "devastated" by the loss of life in ‌the helicopter crash and the bus ​collision in Chatsworth, thanking emergency responders for ‌their swift response.

The ⁠National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation ​Administration will investigate the ‌crash, the Fire Department said.
