Tensions ran high in the bordering areas under the Kalamchoura police station in Sonamura subdivision of Tripura’s Sepahijala district, following a clash between Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and local residents on Monday (November 2, 2026). Three BSF personnel and a local youth were injured. The police are probing the incident.
Three BSF personnel, including an officer, were receiving treatment at a government hospital in Agartala, the police said. The injured youth, who has a leg fracture, has also been admitted to the hospital.
The clash occurred during a road blockade at the Ashabari locality by locals protesting against the detention and assault of a youth. Many women also joined the protest.
An officer and personnel who arrived at the scene in a vehicle ended up in a heated brawl with the protesters leading the clash. The crowds also chased the BSF men when they attempted to retreat.
The police confirmed three BSF personnel and a local youth had received multiple injuries. The injured were later shifted to the Tripura Medical College and BRAM Hospital in the outskirts of Agartala city.
The BSF has not made an official statement on the incident. A security contingent comprising armed police and Tripura State Rifles personnel has been deployed at the scene of the incident.
The deployment of security forces helped restore normalcy in the area, reports said. No arrest has been made so far despite the filing of two separate First Information Reports at the local police station.
This is the second incident in the past year during which the BSF has come under attack in Tripura. In the earlier incident, four BSF troopers and one officer were injured when their vehicle was attacked at Bishalgarh market, also in Sepahijala district.
