Tenders for Section V of Chennai peripheral ring road from Singaperumal Koil to Poonjeri cancelled

The Tamil Nadu Road Development Company has annulled the tender floated for the construction of the Singaperumal Koil to Poonjeri section (Section V) of the Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (CPRR). It was cancelled due to administrative reasons.
The work for the contractor entailed the designing and building of the approximately 27-km long stretch. This section of the 133.64-km access-controlled six-lane dual carriageway, with two-lane service lanes on either side, is being constructed with external funding assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to the tune of 49,847 million Japanese Yen.
The project, which aims to improve connectivity for vehicles from the southern parts of the State to the Ennore and Kattupalli ports, will also have an Intelligent Transport System (ITS). It is being built at an overall cost of ₹17,958.39 crore.
Section I of this project is being implemented by TNRDC with external funding assistance from JICA to the tune of 40,074 million Japanese Yen.
Sections II and III are being implemented with external funding assistance from Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and OPEC Fund for International Development to the tune of 478 million USD.
Section IV of CPRR has already been completed. The preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) is in progress for the upgradation of Section IV as an access-controlled road.
