Temple burgled near Katpadi

Burglars decamped with gold ornaments and bronze objects worth ₹4 lakh from Renugambalamman temple in Keraisathu village on Tuesday. 

The police said that it was around 8 a.m when the temple priest, S. Pasupathi, 48, a resident of Ponnai, opened the main entrance of the temple and found that the locks of the entrance were damaged. Initial inquiry revealed that the priest went inside the temple premises and found a lock of the sanctum sanctorum where the main deity was placed. Gold ornaments, bronze objects, and cash from hundis were stolen.

On being informed, Ponnai police inspected the spot. Fingerprint experts and sniffer dogs were also roped in. A case was registered. CCTV camera footage on the route was also being analysed to nab the suspects.
