Teenager dead, 2 seriously injured after collision near Bassano, Alta., RCMP say - CBC
Police say the cause of a fatal two-vehicle collision near Bassano, Alta., remains under investigation. (CBC News)Social SharingA teenager died in a two-vehicle collision in southern Alberta shortly after midnight Sunday, RCMP say.
Around 12:05 a.m., Bassano RCMP received reports of a crash roughly 15 kilometres east of the town, at Highway 550 and Range Road 165, according to a news release.
RCMP say a sedan and a pickup truck collided.
The truck's driver, a 15-year-old Bassano resident, was declared dead at the scene. The passenger, a male youth, received minor injuries, RCMP say.Β
Both of the sedan's occupants were sent to hospital with serious injuries, police say.
Bassano Fire and EMS also attended the scene, as did an RCMP collision reconstructionist. Officials say the cause of the collision remains under investigation.Β
The intersection reopened at 8:41 a.m., according to 511 Alberta.
The town of Bassano is about 115 kilometres east of Calgary.
