Teen dies after being hit by dumper in UP's Gorakhpur, locals set vehicle ablaze

A 17-year-old boy was killed after being hit by a dumper while crossing the road in the Gorakhpur district on Wednesday, following which angry villagers set the vehicle on fire.

The incident took place in the district's Naharapur area, where the teenager was crossing the road when he was run over by the dumper. He died on the spot.

Soon after the accident, a large number of villagers gathered at the spot and, in an angry reaction, set the dumper ablaze. The incident heightened tensions in the area.

On receiving information about the accident, the local police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The police took the teenager's body into custody and initiated the necessary legal proceedings.

Police said they were gathering details about the circumstances that led to the accident and were also trying to ascertain the identity and whereabouts of the dumper driver.

The police are also questioning villagers in connection with the burning of the dumper.
