Steelers trade Joey Porter Jr. to Giants for first-round pick in 2027 mock draft - Steelers Wire

Joey Porter Jr. trade rumors have officially gone nuclear, with the New York Giants emerging as one of the hottest potential landing spots for the Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback. After analyzing and predicting a potential trade package, we at Steelers Wire decided to make an updated 2027 NFL mock draft that includes Porter being dealt to the Giants in exchange for a first-round draft pick.

With an assortment of needs for the Steelers, especially if Porter is traded, here's a look at Pittsburgh's updated three-round mock draft, including two first-round, one second-round, and two third-round draft picks.

If the Steelers traded Porter, fans may be screaming for the team to target a cornerback with their first pick. But Stone is too talented a player to pass on if he somehow escapes the top 15 and would be an outstanding pickup with Cameron Heyward set to retire any season now. Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 310-plus pounds, Stone is versatile enough to play at multiple positions on the defensive line and would easily become a cornerstone (pun intended) of Pittsburgh's defense for years to come.

After passing on a cornerback with the first-round pick acquired from the Giants, the Steelers finally attempt to replace Porter with Ashton Hampton. Measuring in at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, Hampton is the ideal target in the first round. Possessing a rare size, length, and speed combination that NFL teams covet for outside cornerbacks, Hampton would be an excellent addition to Pittsburgh's defense.

Will Howard and Drew Allar are both unproven options for the long-term starting QB job, so why not add another young signal caller into the mix? After all, can the team really afford to stop taking swings after Aaron Rodgers retires? Chambliss' mobility would add another dimension to Pittsburgh's offense, one that proven quarterback guru Mike McCarthy would potentially love to get his hands on.

The Steelers' offensive line, while promising, still remains one of the most concerning areas on the roster. Montgomery is a massive human being at 6-foot-5, 313 pounds, and a dominant force in the run game. Adding Montgomery to potentially compete with Brock Hoffman and Gennings Dunker at the right guard position would be a solid decision with so many uncertainties surrounding the future of the offense.

Pittsburgh hasn't really found a long-term answer at the safety position since trading away Minkah Fitzpatrick, but Shuler would be an excellent attempt at potentially filling the vacancy. Shuler's versatility allows him to play deep safety, in addition to lining up comfortably in the box, or even in the slot.
