‘Special Enrichment’ programme expanded to 445 schools in Keralam

Quality education reforms in tune with changing times are essential to equip students to compete at the global level, General Education Minister N. Samsudheen has said.

Speaking at the State-level inauguration of the General Education department’s ‘Special Enrichment’ programme at Government Higher Secondary School, Meppadi, in Wayanad, on Monday (September 28, 2026), the Minister said the initiative was aimed at supporting students who face educational setbacks owing to geographical difficulties and mental stress.

The comprehensive programme seeks to ensure quality education for all and promote equity and equal opportunities in education. It aims at the academic empowerment and holistic development of students studying in government schools in Adivasi, coastal and plantation areas.

The State-level inauguration was held in Meppadi with a particular focus on children from the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslide-affected areas, Mr. Samsudheen said.

Implemented as part of the United Democratic Front government’s 100-day action programme, the initiative was introduced in 50 schools during the previous academic year and has been expanded to 445 schools in 2026-27. An administrative sanction of ₹5 crore has been granted for its implementation.

The programme includes expert-led classes, camps, skill development workshops, educational trips, improvement of physical facilities and awareness programmes for parents.

The government has established Digital Squares in 6,000 schools across the State to strengthen digital education among lower primary and upper primary students as part of the initiative. The government would also introduce the ARISE programme to teach artificial intelligence and robotics in high schools, the Minister added.
