A landslide triggers a rockfall into a rubber plantation in Khiri Ratthanikhom district in Surat Thani on Oct 28, after heavy rains in the province. (Photo: Khiri Ratthanikhom district office) Heavy downpours are expected in Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla on Sunday before expanding to almost all southern provinces along the Gulf of Thailand from Surat Thani.

The Meteorological Department issued a weather alert on Friday for Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla urging the provinces to brace for downpours on Sunday and Monday.

Heavy rain would start in four additional provinces on Monday, it added. They are Surat Thani, Phatthalung, Pattani and Narathiwat.

The department also warned people in the southern provinces of possible flash floods and runoffs triggered by severe storms during the two-day period.
