Socio-Environmental Passport Seeks to Protect Brazilian Agribusiness from New EU Barrier - Folha de S.Paulo

The Brazilian government has created a socio-environmental passport, officially called Rasoe (Socio-environmental Analysis Report for Export Operations), in an attempt to prevent Brazilian agribusiness exports from being blocked by new European Union rules targeting products linked to illegal deforestation. The document compiles environmental, land ownership, territorial and labor information on rural properties and can be presented to foreign buyers as proof of the products’ origin.

The measure, whose resolution was published by Camex (Strategic Council of the Foreign Trade Chamber), is part of Brazil’s preparations for the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which will take effect on Dec. 30 this year for large and medium-sized companies and on June 30, 2027, for micro and small businesses. The regulation affects products such as soy, beef, coffee, cocoa, timber, rubber and palm oil, requiring proof that production did not come from an area deforested after Dec. 31, 2020.
