Sigma box office Day 4: Jason Sanjay's film crashes, earns less than Rs 1 crore
Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut Sigma continued to struggle at the box office, with the film witnessing a sharp drop on its first Monday. The Sundeep Kishan-starrer collected Rs 84 lakh India nett on Day 4, a 44 per cent decline from Sunday’s Rs 1.50 crore. The film has now earned Rs 6.19 crore India nett, while its India gross collection stands at Rs 7.04 crore.
According to trade website Sacnilk, Sigma recorded Rs 84 lakh on Monday from 1,520 shows across India. The film registered an overall occupancy of around 17.6 per cent, indicating that it failed to sustain the momentum it showed over the weekend.Sigma box office collection Day 4
Sigma opened in theatres on October 2 with Rs 2.35 crore India nett. The film recorded 31.1 per cent occupancy across 1,813 shows on its opening day. The film witnessed a drop on Saturday, collecting Rs 1.50 crore India nett from 1,802 shows, with overall occupancy falling to 22.6 per cent. Sunday failed to bring the expected jump, with the film collecting another Rs 1.50 crore from 1,753 shows at 23.6 per cent occupancy.
Monday brought another significant decline. The Tamil and Telugu versions contributed differently to the film’s Day 4 performance. The Tamil version collected Rs 33 lakh India nett on Monday from 724 shows, recording an overall occupancy of 17 per cent. The Telugu version performed slightly better, contributing Rs 43 lakh from 796 shows, with its overall occupancy standing at 18 per cent.
Despite the Telugu version contributing more than the Tamil version on Monday, neither market managed to generate significant growth after the weekend.What is Sigma about?
Directed by Jason Sanjay, Sigma stars Sundeep Kishan as Guru, a man struggling to keep his ancestral library running while dealing with mounting debt. He owes money to a local gangster and looks for ways to clear the amount, eventually turning to a podcast about books as a potential source of income.
Faria Abdullah plays Sam, an RJ who becomes the central romantic interest in Guru’s life. Raju Sundaram plays Dr Neil, while Anbu Thasan appears as Kavithai Ganesh.
The story brings Guru into the orbit of several criminal figures. Sampath Raj plays Kotlapadi Veera Reddy, a drug trafficker, while Shiv Panditt plays Vincent, who runs an illegal casino. Ezhil, a missing person, connects the two characters, while Magalakshmi Sudarsanan plays Sarangi, a gangster’s mole who has plans of her own. The film also stars Yog Japee and other members of the ensemble cast.
Sigma marks Jason Sanjay’s first film as a director. The 25-year-old filmmaker, who is the son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay, entered the industry with considerable attention surrounding his debut.
