Sigma box office Day 2: Jason Sanjay film dips after opening day, nears Rs 4 crore
Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut Sigma witnessed a drop in box office collections on its second day. The heist action comedy earned Rs 1.50 crore nett in India on Saturday, a 36.2 per cent decline from its Rs 2.35 crore opening-day collection. The film’s two-day India nett collection now stands at Rs 3.85 crore.
According to trade website Sacnilk, Sigma earned Rs 1.50 crore from 1,802 shows on Day 2, recording an overall occupancy of 22.6 per cent. The film registered 144,182 footfalls on Saturday, taking its cumulative footfall count to 365,861 after two days. Its total India gross collection stands at Rs 4.40 crore.
The Tamil version contributed the larger share of the Day 2 earnings, collecting Rs 95 lakh nett from 916 shows at 26 per cent occupancy. The Telugu version, meanwhile, earned Rs 55 lakh nett from 886 shows and recorded 19 per cent occupancy.
The Tamil 2D version recorded an overall occupancy of 35.79 per cent on Saturday. Morning shows registered 24.92 per cent occupancy, while afternoon screenings recorded 33.08 per cent. Evening shows saw 28.69 per cent occupancy, with night screenings performing the strongest at 41.08 per cent.
The Telugu 2D version recorded an overall occupancy of 15.68 per cent. Morning shows stood at 14 per cent, while afternoon screenings recorded 18.90 per cent. Evening occupancy was 15.20 per cent, while night shows registered 10 per cent.
Sigma stars Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah in the lead roles. The film follows a librarian struggling with financial problems and attempting to clear a debt. His circumstances eventually pull him into a dangerous criminal underworld involving drug dealers, illegal casinos and heists. As he navigates the world of crime, a series of double-crosses further complicates his journey.
Sigma opened to Rs 2.35 crore net in India on Friday, October 2, with an overall occupancy of 31.1 per cent across 1,813 shows.
IndiaToday.in’s review of the film reads, “Sigma ultimately lacks conviction, invention and a clear sense of direction. For Jason Sanjay, it is a disappointing debut — a film that has all the ingredients for a heist, but somehow forgets to make the heist exciting.”
