Seven arrested for murder in Mangalhat

Seven persons, including two women, were arrested by the Mangalhat police for allegedly assaulting and strangling a 24-year-old man after calling him to a house in Raheempura.

The victim, Sainath Singh, was allegedly killed on September 28 following a dispute over his relationship with one of the accused, Anisha Singh, 25.

According to police, Anisha had allegedly been in a relationship with Sainath for the past three to four years. Her husband and other family members had allegedly warned Sainath several times to stop contacting her. “Despite the warnings, he allegedly continued contacting Anisha through social media and pressuring her to meet him,” said an officer from the Mangalhat police.

Investigators alleged that Anisha subsequently conspired with the other accused to kill Sainath. As part of the plan, he was allegedly called to her mother’s house in Raheempura on September 28, where the group assaulted him before strangling him.

The case was registered following a complaint from Sainath’s sister, Sony Singh, 26, a resident of Shivlalnagar, Dhoolpet.

Police said CCTV footage examined during the investigation helped identify the suspects. Acting on information, the seven were apprehended on September 30. Apart from Anisha, those arrested were Makhan Badal Singh, 24, Akash Singh, 21, Abhishek, 23, Poojari Lakhan Singh, 33, Akshay Singh, 30, and Degan Nanditha alias Nandini, 24.

Police seized six mobile phones and two two-wheelers allegedly connected with the case.

According to police, Anisha was previously involved in an NDPS Act case registered at Mangalhat police station in 2023, while Badal Singh had eight previous cases against him. Lakhan Singh was previously involved in two cases. All seven accused are being produced before a court. Further investigation is under way.
