A school teacher from Kozhikode was arrested on charge of sexually assaulting girl students during a school excursion to Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu. The police gave his name as Saleeth, 42, a native of Velom Peruvayal.

The students informed their parents and other teachers about the alleged inappropriate behaviour and abuse by the teacher during the trip after their return. Subsequently, the police registered a case invoking provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on a complaint by parents and the school authorities.

An investigation was launched to locate the accused, who went into hiding following the incident. He was arrested by a team led by Elathur Station House Officer Nimin K. Divakaran. The accused was produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
