Salman Khan takes on nepotism on BB 20 after addressing Katrina's postpartum trolls
Actor Salman Khan has been using Bigg Boss 20’s Weekend Ka Vaar episodes to address more than just the contestants’ behaviour. After calling out trolls over Katrina Kaif’s postpartum body-shaming, Salman turned his attention to nepotism and the privileges that come with being a star kid. His latest take has also drawn appreciation from fans on social media.
During the latest Weekend Ka Vaar episode, the superstar schooled Rhiti Tiwari, daughter of actor, singer and politician Manoj Tiwari, over her behaviour towards fellow contestants Uditi Singh and Qazi Touqeer. While addressing her conduct, Salman also spoke about the assumptions and criticism that celebrity children often face simply because of their family background.
Salman told Rhiti that being Manoj Tiwari’s daughter could lead people to assume that she was on the show because of her father’s name.
“You are Manoj Tiwari's daughter; till now people must be saying that since you are his daughter, that's your claim to fame. He is such a big actor, singer, politician, so they think you are here because of him. It's nepotism; people even say that no one knows you, yet you are here. Nepotism ki ladki hai and Salman will not scream at her. There are two ways to look at it: either it’s like bhai bajao, the other way is samjhao. Which one do you prefer?” he said.
However, Salman also pointed out that having a famous parent is not something a child chooses and stressed that a star kid still has to prove themselves.
“Your father has worked very hard, and it's not your fault to be born to him. In fact, those children whose fathers didn't work very hard, their sons did so and reached here,” Salman said.
The actor went on to explain that a parent’s name may provide an entry into the film industry, but it cannot guarantee a successful career. Drawing from his own experience, Salman spoke about his father, screenwriter Salim Khan, and how his family background gave him an opening but did not determine his journey.
Salman also cited Ajay Devgn, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Jackky Shroff, and Hrithik Roshan, pointing out that each actor had their own qualities and journey despite coming from film families.
“Your father's hard work can only bring you till here; then it depends on you,” Salman concluded.
Soon after the episode aired, many praised the Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor for addressing such issues on national television. Good to see the OG Salman Khan back.” A third user chimed in and wrote, “Salman exposed Rhiti Tiwari HARD. “You’re Manoj Tiwari’s daughter, yet you came here and no one knows you.” That nepotism call-out hit DIFFERENT! Beast Mode activated.” The nepotism discussion comes as another issue Salman has chosen to address during Bigg Boss 20. In an earlier episode, he had criticised trolls for targeting Katrina Kaif over her postpartum weight gain. He had also called out paparazzi for taking inappropriate photographs of female celebrities.
The Weekend Ka Vaar episodes are increasingly becoming a platform for Salman to comment on issues extending beyond the immediate conflicts inside the Bigg Boss house.
