Quezon City logs spike in COVID-19 cases in 3 weeks
MANILA, Philippines — Confirmed COVID-19 cases in Quezon City increased from 23 to 84 in the last three weeks, according to the city's epidemiology and surveillance unit.
The Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division said 30% of the confirmed cases were children aged 14 and below, while 16% were adults aged 25 to 29 and another 16% were senior citizens aged 60 and above.
Women accounted for 66 cases, or 62%, while men accounted for 41 cases, or 38%.
District 4 logged the highest share of cases at 32.71%, followed by District 1 at 22.43%.
Eleven cases were recorded in Barangay Doña Imelda, while four cases each were recorded in Barangays Culiat, Salvacion, Santa Teresita, Santo Cristo, Sauyo, Socorro and Tandang Sora.
The new cases were recorded from June 11 to July 1, bringing Quezon City's total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in 2026 to 146.
"Pinag-iingat po natin ang mga senior citizen... kasi ganoon pa rin naman ang threat ng COVID sa ating mga senior, most vulnerable, especially 'yung mga may comorbidity," Dr. Rolly Cruz, head of the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division, told dzMM in an interview on Monday, July 6.

Cruz said those who tested positive for COVID-19 showed only mild symptoms.
Local monitoring. The Quezon City government said it is conducting case monitoring and disease surveillance to keep track of the newly recorded cases.
It also encouraged the public to practice respiratory hygiene, including wearing masks, washing hands and staying home when sick.
The local government also advised immediate consultation for children and senior citizens experiencing symptoms.
Symptoms. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, COVID-19 symptoms include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, new loss of taste or smell, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.
