ProNutro cereal to be discontinued in SA - EWN

American Global Food and beverage corporation PepsiCo has confirmed it will discontinue ProNutro cereal in South Africa. 

The breakfast favorite produced by Pioneer Foods' Bokomo was launched in 1962 and has been a household name for 64 years. 

The decision follows the company’s attempt to introduce a new formula earlier this year. 

But consumers complained that the new product did not have the same taste, texture and mixability as the original. 

PepsiCo says it explored options to bring back the original product experience but was unable to recreate it. 

The company said following a long review, it has therefore decided to discontinue ProNutro in South Africa. 

Pronutro was originally developed to help address protein deficiency and malnutrition in South Africa and was marketed as the original protein cereal. 

It remains unclear whether the decision will also affect other ProNutro products, including its cereal bars.
