TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his entourage at his private residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, today. Prabowo was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

Prabowo referred to Ahmad Zahid as an old friend. During their meeting, they discussed the issue of forest fires. "Malaysia offers help and wants to assist us in overcoming forest fires in Kalimantan," Prabowo said in a video statement on Friday, September 18, 2026.

He welcomed Malaysia's assistance plan with gratitude and joy. According to the Head of State, Indonesia has also received assistance from Japan. Several other countries have also offered assistance.

The Gerindra Party chair stated that forest fires in Kalimantan are environmental issues that affect many parties. "Even though it is a fire in Indonesia, its impact is felt by our neighbors. So, they want to help us, and we accept it gladly," he said.

As for forest fires response in Kalimantan, Malaysia plans to send a plane, three helicopters, and a 52-person firefighting team. "This has been done several years ago as well," said Prabowo.

Prabowo ensured that he is currently formulating comprehensive measures to prevent forest fires. "So that it does not recur every few years," he said.

In this meeting, Prabowo and Ahmad Zahid also discussed other issues. One of these plans is cooperation in the halal industry.

For Prabowo, Indonesia's relationship with Malaysia is very good. "We must not let things that disturb us become exaggerated issues," said Prabowo. "Indonesia and Malaysia are our brothers who must work together, we must maintain a very good relationship."
