Police arrest woman over co-wife’s death in Bauchi - Punch Newspapers
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old housewife, Hauwa’u Haruna, for allegedly killing her co-wife, Jamila Adamu, during a domestic incident at the Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate, Bauchi. The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday. Habib said the incident occurred on September 27, 2026, at about 4:05pm, when the C-Division, Bauchi, received information about a domestic incident involving the two co-wives. He said preliminary investigation revealed that Hauwa’u, the second wife, allegedly armed herself with a pestle and struck 43-year-old Jamila on the forehead, causing her to fall unconscious. The statement read, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the second wife, one Hauwa’u Haruna, 33 years old, allegedly acting under hallucinations, armed herself with a pestle and struck the first wife, one Jamila Adamu, 43 years old, on the forehead. Her corpse has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.” According to Habib, the suspect was arrested while the pestle allegedly used in the incident was recovered as an exhibit. He said the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, had directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution. “The CP condoles with the bereaved family and cautions the public against domestic violence, while advising families to seek timely medical and psycho-social support for members exhibiting mental health challenges,” the statement added.
