Police arrest two kidnappers after Rivers victim pays N10.3m ransom - The Guardian Nigeria News
Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested two suspected members of a six-man kidnapping syndicate allegedly involved in the abduction of a resident identified as Hassan.
The suspects, identified as 24-year-old Victor Ifeanyi, alias βBig Bobyβ, and 36-year-old Aniekan Okon Michael, alias βDuff Manβ, were arrested by operatives of the commandβs Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU-AKU) following an intelligence-led operation.
Spokesperson for the command, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, said Hassan was abducted on September 6, 2026, around Fidelity Bank, Garrison, Port Harcourt.
The kidnappers reportedly took him to Igbugulu Waterside, Borikiri, where he was held captive for three days.
The victim was eventually released after his relatives allegedly paid N10.3 million in ransom.
The police said they received credible information about the abduction on September 7, prompting operatives of the VCRU-AKU to commence investigations and intelligence-led operations to identify those behind the crime.
The operation subsequently led to the arrest of Ifeanyi and Michael, whom the police described as suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate.
The command said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects allegedly confessed to participating in the operation.
The suspects reportedly disclosed that the gang had six members and used a white mini-bus, popularly known as a Keke bus, during the operation.
The police said efforts had been intensified to arrest the remaining members of the syndicate and bring them to justice.
