The police have arraigned a 31-year-old woman, Funke Femiloba, before a Magistrate Court in Lagos over allegations that she impersonated a member of staff of OPay Digital Services Limited and obtained money from members of the public under false pretences.

The police have arraigned a 31-year-old woman, Funke Femiloba, before a Magistrate Court in Lagos over allegations that she impersonated a member of staff of OPay Digital Services Limited and obtained money from members of the public under false pretences.

Femiloba was arraigned on September 24, 2026, on four counts bordering on conspiracy, impersonation, conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace and obtaining money by false pretences.

According to the charge, marked MIK/P/53/26, the alleged offences occurred in Ikeja, Lagos, sometime in September 2026.

The police alleged in the first count that Femiloba conspired with other persons, who are currently at large, to obtain money by false pretences.

The prosecution said the alleged offence was contrary to Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

In the second count, the police alleged that Femiloba falsely represented herself as a member of staff of OPay Digital Services Limited.

The charge alleged that the defendant knew the representation to be false and said the alleged offence was contrary to Section 78 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The prosecution further alleged in the third count that Femiloba and others at large conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by misleading members of the public.

The police said the alleged offence was contrary to Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

In the fourth count, the prosecution alleged that Femiloba and others obtained money from members of the public. The amount allegedly involved was not specified in the charge provided to The Guardian.

The police said the fourth alleged offence was contrary to Section 313 and punishable under Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

Following the arraignment, the court ordered that Femiloba be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

The case was subsequently adjourned until November 30, 2026, for hearing.
