PKLI set for first kidney transplant

The Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) Rawalpindi is all set to perform its first kidney transplant today (Friday), following two successful liver transplants at the facility. A team of specialist doctors has completed preparations for the first kidney transplant, scheduled for 8am. A resident of Farash Town, Islamabad, will receive a kidney donated by his biological brother. Following the procedure, PKLI Board of Governors Chairman Dr Saeed Akhtar will hold a press conference to brief the media about the first kidney transplant and the facility's earlier liver transplant procedures. PKLI Rawalpindi performed its first successful liver transplant on August 25, involving a resident of Rajanpur who received a liver donation from his nephew. A second liver transplant was performed on August 26, when a resident of Kallar Syedan received a liver donation from his sister.
