PH gets first 2026 Asian Games gold from Carlos Yulo; Gilas 3x3 teams advance to semis - GMA Network

The Philippines won its first gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games as Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo ruled the men’s floor exercise final in artistic gymnastics on Thursday in Japan.

With Yulo’s victory, the Philippines now has six medals at the Asian Games, including one silver from MMA fighter Jean Claude Saclag and four bronze medals from MMA, karate, and soft tennis.

The victory also marked Yulo’s first Asian Games gold medal.

The Philippines then notched wins in 3x3 basketball as both Gilas Pilipinas teams advanced to the semifinals after winning their respective quarterfinals matches.

Luis Pablo delivered the game-winning basket as the Gilas Pilipinas men’s 3x3 team defeated Chinese Taipei, 21-19, while the Philippine women’s team beat Singapore, 22-12.

In other sports, Olympian Kayla Sanchez missed the podium after placing fourth in the women’s 50m freestyle, while fellow Olympian Joanie Delgaco of rowing finished sixth in the women’s single sculls.

The Philippine mixed 4x400m relay team of Naomi Johnson, Michael del Prado, Gabriel Borado, and Victoria Bossong also set a new national record of 3:19.68.

On Friday, Yulo will compete in the men’s parallel bars and vault finals, while his brother Karl Eldrew will see action in the horizontal bar. Their teammate Juancho Miguel Besana will also compete in the vault final.

The Gilas 3x3 teams, meanwhile, will play their respective semifinals matches, with a chance to advance to the medal rounds.
