PD Act invoked against woman for running belt shop in Borabanda

Borabanda police on Saturday executed Preventive Detention (PD) Act orders against a 45-year-old woman accused of repeatedly selling liquor illegally through a belt shop in the area.

The accused, Vemula Sarala, a resident of Banjara Nagar in Borabanda, had allegedly been operating the belt shop for the past few years and was involved in several cases related to unauthorised liquor sales, police said.

The PD orders were executed under the Telangana Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act following orders issued by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar.

Police also warned those operating belt shops or selling liquor without a valid licence in Borabanda to stop such activities. Cases would be registered under the Telangana Excise Act, while habitual offenders could face action under the PD Act, police said.

Those providing premises or shelter for belt shops could also be named as accused. Police asked residents to report illegal liquor sales through Dial 112, assuring confidentiality of informants.
