That means, although Pensacola, Fla. and Cranbrook, B.C. are on opposite sides of North America with vastly different climates and environments, their clocks are synched for the next five months.
Thatβs because B.C. decided to stick to daylight time permanently, and did not gain an hour over the weekend.
On Nov. 1, most of Canada returned to standard time.
Meanwhile, B.C., Alberta, Manitoba and the Northwest Territories have decided against it. Yukon has been on permanent daylight time since 2021 and Saskatchewan since 1966, with the exception of Lloydminster, which straddles the border with Alberta and stopped changing its time this year.
While Pensacola is a balmy 23 degrees Celsius on Monday, Cranbrook is a cool 0 degrees β so for now, it seems that time is all they have in common.
Most of B.C. has adopted permanent year-round daylight time, staying on Pacific Time. The government shared information online about certain locations that would remain on Mountain Time.
Residents of parts of Southeastern B.C., including Cranbrook, Fernie and Elkford, will βremain aligned with Albertaβ and use Mountain Time year round.
It said the change was βto improve peopleβs overall health, reduce disruptions for families, simplify scheduling and provide an extra hour of evening light during the winter months.β
Pensacola, located in the Florida Panhandle northwest of Miami and Tampa, switched from Central Daylight Time to Central Standard Time over the weekend, as it normally does this time of year.
There are two time zones in Florida β Eastern and Central. Nine of the stateβs 67 counties operate completely on Central Time, according to the Pensacola News Journal. Pensacola is located in Escambia County, one of the nine on Central Time.
The time zones in B.C. and Florida wonβt stay matched up for too long, though. In March, Pensacola and other cities within the nine counties will revert to daylight time again.

'We are very very clear. We are following the evidence as it becomes available,' said Chief Myron Demkiw on Monday
