Oyo condemns abduction of corps members in Imo, assures families of safe release - The Guardian Nigeria News

The Oyo State Government has condemned the abduction of some corps members from the state in Imo State, assuring their families that it is working with security agencies and other relevant authorities to secure their safe release.

The government said it was deeply concerned about the incident and had begun engaging the Imo State Government, security agencies and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) leadership to coordinate efforts towards rescuing the abducted corps members.

In a statement issued on Friday, the state Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, said the government was committed to ensuring that the victims were reunited with their families without harm.

He said Governor Seyi Makinde had directed that all necessary resources be deployed to facilitate their release, adding that the safety and well-being of indigenes of the state, both within and outside its borders, remained a priority.

“The Government of Oyo State condemns this reprehensible act and is in close communication with relevant security agencies, the Imo State Government, and the leadership of the National Youth Service Corps to ensure a coordinated and urgent response,” the statement said.

Oyelade urged the families of the abducted corps members to remain calm, assuring them that the government was actively engaged in efforts to secure their release.

The state government also called on security agencies to intensify their operations and ensure that those responsible for the abduction were apprehended and brought to justice.

It pledged to continue working with relevant stakeholders to prevent similar incidents in the future, while expressing solidarity with the victims, their families and the entire NYSC community.
