Ony Setiawan, Suspect in East Java ESDM Corruption Case, Passes Away
SURABAYA, KOMPAS.com - Ony Setiawan, a suspect in the corruption case involving licensing within the East Java Provincial Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Office, has passed away.
The man, who previously served as Head of the Mining Division at ESDM East Java, breathed his last on Friday (18/9/2026) around 5:00 PM WIB.
The news of Ony Setiawan's passing was directly confirmed by Emanuel Yogi Budi Aryanto, Head of Intelligence Section (Kasi Intel) at the Surabaya District Prosecutor's Office (Kejari Surabaya).
"Yes, he passed away this afternoon around 5:00 PM WIB," Emanuel told Kompas.com via a text message.
Emanuel explained that before his death, Ony Setiawan was rushed to the Surabaya Islamic Hospital (RSI) to receive medical treatment.
"At RSI, yes, he died due to a heart attack," he added.
Previously, Ony Setiawan was named a suspect in a corruption case by the East Java High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati Jatim) along with two other suspects: Head of the ESDM East Java Office, Aris Mukiyono, and the Chair of the Water and Land Utilization Working Team, Hermawan.
The three are strongly suspected of collectively committing corruption offenses involving illegal levies related to their official positions.
For their actions, all three suspects have been charged under several articles of the Corruption Eradication Law (Tipikor) and the Criminal Code (KUHP).
The alleged charges include Article 12 letter e or Article 12B of Law Number 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 in conjunction with Article 20 of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code.
They are also charged under Article 606 paragraph (2) of Law Number 1 of 2023 in conjunction with Article 20 of Law Number 1 of 2023 and Law Number 1 of 2026 on Criminal Sanctions Adjustments.
The case has been transferred from Kejati Jatim to Kejari Surabaya along with evidence (Phase II) before proceeding to trial at the Surabaya District Court.
