North Korea tested new air defense missile system on Wed - NHKニュース
North Korean media have reported the country test-fired a new air defense missile system and a cruise missile on Wednesday.
The state-run Korean Central News Agency reported on Thursday that the country's Missile Administration tested a new air defense missile system the previous day, while the military's cruise missile unit fired a long-range strategic cruise missile.
The report said the air defense missile test proved the reliability of the system's guidance technology, target identification and tracking capability. Released images show a missile being launched.
The report also said the cruise missile perfectly struck a virtual airport target. Images show multiple targets made to look like fighter jets on a runway exploding.
South Korea's military announced Wednesday morning that North Korea fired multiple missiles toward waters to the east from near Sondok in South Hamgyong Province.
South Korean experts say North Korea may have wanted to underscore its presence during the US midterm elections, as President Donald Trump has expressed a willingness to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
