NGCP: Visayas grid under yellow alert on September 17, 2026 - GMA Network

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has declared a yellow alert status over the Visayas grid on Thursday, September 17 amid the unavailability of some coal plants.

In an advisory issued at 8 a.m., the yellow alert will is effective from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Visayas grid currently has an available capacity of 2,505 megawatts, despite having a peak demand of 2,290 MW.

The yellow alert declaration was due to the unavailability of the Visayas large coal plants - Therma Visayas, Inc. Unit 1 and Panay Energy Development Corp. Unit 3.

The limited power import from the Mindanao grid also triggered the yellow alert status.

Moreover, 12 plants are on forced outage on September, three plants since August 2026, one plant since July, two plants since June, seven plants since May, three plants since 2025, two plants since 2024, two plants since 2023, and one plant since 2021. Meanwhile 14, plants are running on derated capacities, for a total of 820.6MW unavailable to the grid.
