New York Giants' Jaxson Dart undergoes knee surgery, initial timeline revealed - Giants Wire

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart is officially beginning the road to recovery on Friday after sustaining a knee injury that requires season-ending surgery.

Dart will undergo surgery Friday to primarily repair his meniscus, which is the main issue, per Dan Duggan of The Athletic. However, he also sustained damage to his MCL and PCL. Though there have been reports that his ACL appears clean, the other ligaments being damaged still make this a lengthy recovery.

The initial timeline for Dart's return is 4-6 months and even though head coach John Harbaugh said there's a chance he returns for a potential playoff run, it's best to take this one step at a time.

It's an unfortunate situation the Giants and Dart find themselves in. There was so much hope regarding the season after Dart led an incredible upset win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1. The dual-threat quarterback showed plenty of promise in the opening game, but now the Giants will have to wait another season.

In the meantime, the Giants will be leaning on veteran Jameis Winston, who looked rusty in relief of Dart during the Week 2 loss against the Los Angeles Rams. He completed 11-of-27 passes (40.7%) for 111 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.

The Giants can still be competitive with Winston under center, but the ceiling of the offense is immensely lowered.
