New Range Rover Sport Electric now available to order from R3.29m - TimesLIVE
The new Range Rover Sport Electric has been revealed four weeks after the Range Rover Electric made its global premiere.
Engineered to offer a more dynamic driving experience than its sister model, the Sport Electric comes equipped with uniquely tuned intelligent traction management, virtual all-wheel drive, dynamic air suspension and electronic active roll control, as well as twin-valve dampers and Adaptive Dynamics 2.
Further aiding its handling is an extra-rigid body shell, with Range Rover claiming the SUV has a 61% stiffer body structure and a 73mm lower centre of gravity than Sport plug-in hybrid models. It’s no slouch off the beaten path either, with a 900mm wading depth and the ability to climb 45° inclines.
The Range Rover Sport Electric offers a real-world driving range of up to 535km. Picture: Range Rover Power is provided by a 118.5kWh lithium-ion battery with high power density, housed in a high-strength aluminium enclosure. It powers two 260kW electric motors, one on each axle, for a combined output of 404kW and 850Nm of torque. With Dynamic Launch mode engaged, Range Rover says the Sport Electric will accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds — a notable figure considering its size and weight.
Boasting an 800V electrical architecture, the Sport Electric can add up to 220km of driving range in as little as 10 minutes, or charge from 10% to 80% in about 22 minutes at a peak 350kW. Maximum range is rated at up to 609km on the WLTP cycle and 535km in real-world conditions.
Boosting overall efficiency are an aerodynamically optimised front grille and alloy wheel designs, which Range Rover says contribute up to 16 extra kilometres of driving range when travelling at motorway speeds.
Another highlight is full compatibility with the Range Rover app. Owners can use it to remotely initiate cabin purification, activate the heated steering wheel, check the battery’s current charge status and projected driving range, and confirm the vehicle’s live location. The app also allows owners to select and schedule charging when the vehicle is parked and plugged in.
A minimalist dashboard is home to a 13.1-inch curved glass touchscreen running the marque's Pivi Pro infotainment system. Order books are now open for the Range Rover Sport Electric, available in Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE, Autobiography and First Edition specifications. An optional Black Pack and Satin Wrap are available, while the First Edition is finished in Zadar Grey with Satin Wrap, a black contrast roof and 22-inch alloy wheels.
The new Range Rover Sport Electric is priced from R3,291,100 for the EV550 Dynamic SE and R3,609,200 for the range-topping EV550 First Edition.
