Middle East Eye is launching a new podcast that will give Palestinians in Gaza a platform to speak directly about their lives amid Israel's genocidal war on Gaza.

Hosted by Hussam Tannera, a teacher, father and survivor of the ongoing genocide, The Gaza Podcast will centre the voices and experiences of ordinary Palestinians living in the enclave, bringing listeners closer to the people behind the headlines.

Each episode will feature conversations with Palestinians about what life is like in the strip, from displacement and destruction to shortages of food, water and medical care, as well as the struggles to maintain family life.

The first episode will feature an extended conversation with Mariam Yusuf, a recent medical graduate who shares what it was like to seek refuge in a hospital during Israel’s bloody war on Gaza.

She recounts being forced into quarantine after contracting chickenpox, losing loved ones to starvation, and the struggle to process her grief amid the devastation around her.

"The genocide in Gaza has been normalised. What happens there is now openly being used as a model to try elsewhere, in the occupied West Bank and Lebanon," said David Hearst, the co-founder and editor-in-chief of MEE.

"Gaza has been reduced to numbers. This podcast gives Palestinians the space to tell their own stories and relate their own experiences.

"Hussam brings a deeply personal perspective to these conversations, making this an important and timely series for anyone who wants to understand what life is really like in the strip."

The launch of the podcast comes as Palestinians in Gaza continue to face immense hardship. Most of the population remains displaced, with families living in overcrowded and precarious conditions after widespread destruction across the strip.

Since the war began, Israel's atrocities in the enclave and its occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem have prompted widespread diplomatic criticism, leading to international legal proceedings.

It faces two cases at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), one over what the court called a "plausible" case for genocide in Gaza, and another for its occupation of Palestinian territories.

At the International Criminal Court (ICC), prosecutors have issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former minister of defence, Yoav Gallant, for crimes against humanity and war crimes.

The Israeli government has repeatedly rubbished the claims, regularly justifying its attacks on residential buildings, schools, hospitals and other civilian buildings by claiming Hamas or other Palestinian armed groups are operating out of them - claims that have received little scrutiny from the mainstream media or Israel's allies.

Between 7 October 2023 and 7 October 2025, Israel had killed at least 20,179 children, with children under one accounting for at least 1,029 deaths and around 420 newborns.

Since a ceasefire took effect on 10 October 2025, Israel has killed at least 1,257 Palestinians and wounded 4,131 others, including journalists, doctors, first responders, writers, artists, and footballers - among others.

It is against this backdrop that the Gaza Podcast will give Palestinians the opportunity to speak about their lives beyond the statistics.

The Gaza Podcast will be available to watch on YouTube and listen to on Spotify, Apple and all other major podcast platforms.
