The court held that it could not jump to the conclusion that the accused had prior knowledge of the alleged offences owing to mere alcohol consumption or speeding.

The Kerala High Court on Friday (November 6, 2026) granted bail to the four youths who were accused in the Nedumbassery luxury car accident that led to the death of three young two-wheeler riders.

Justice Kauser Edappagath allowed the bail applications of the four accused, considering that all accused were in their early twenties, the lack of criminal history, and the time already spent in custody. Suhail Sajeev, the first accused would be released on November 16, as the State had sought more time pertaining to the investigation. The other three would be released at the earliest.

The court held that it could not jump to the conclusion that the accused had prior knowledge of the alleged offences owing to mere alcohol consumption or speeding.

The accused had contended that as students, their continued detention would negatively affect their education and that they would fulfil any bail conditions necessary to ensure their continued cooperation.

Around 1.45 a.m. on October 11, the car driven by Sajeev crashed into a two-wheeler on Airport Road near Athani, claiming the lives of Gopika, Devika and Iyas. The other accused – Ninav, Joyal S. Anto and Ameen Shah – were in the car with Sajeev during the incident. All four were charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash and negligent driving, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and abetment with a common intention.
