Private school owners in Lagos State are not merely managing schools but rescuing destinies, building tomorrow’s leaders and laying the foundation for an equitable Lagos State.

Private school owners in Lagos State are not merely managing schools but rescuing destinies, building tomorrow’s leaders and laying the foundation for an equitable Lagos State.

That was the declaration of the Lagos State President of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, NAPPS, High Chief Alaka-Yusuf Lukman, at the 2026 NAPPS Lagos State Day Celebration held in Lagos.

He said this year’s theme:, NAPPS: Creating Excellent Education for All Citizens Beyond Boundaries,  was a call to break down every barrier – social, economic, geographic and physical – that stands between a child and quality learning.

“In a rapidly changing world, education must transcend traditional limitations. It must inspire creativity, foster critical thinking, instill moral values, and equip learners with global skills. But above all, true educational excellence is impossible without educational inclusion. Education is only truly transformative when it leaves no child behind,” he said.

Alaka-Yusuf commended private school owners as indispensable partners in state building who have brought learning to every nook and cranny of Lagos – from Ikeja, Lagos Island and Surulere to Badagry, Epe and Ikorodu – through community outreach, scholarships and affordable fees.

Immediate past President of NAPPS Lagos State and Proprietor of Oman Group of Schools, Ikorodu, Mr. Amusa Muhammed Olawale, said NAPPS Day was set aside to appreciate proprietors as nation builders.

Meanwhile, goodwill messages from government agencies affirmed partnership with private schools.

Executive Chairman of Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, LASUBEB, Dr. Hakeem Babatunde Shittu, said: “We are very much in support of NAPPS. They are doing great in ensuring that education reaches all. They are our partner, and we are promising to support them.”

Also speaking, a board member of the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM, Biodun Bamgboye, who represented the Director-General of the PBAT-KOH Campaign Council, Lagos State, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, said government presence at NAPPS Day was an affirmation that public and private education must move together.

“I’m a board member in Lagos State Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM and I serve in the Director General’s Office of the PBAT-KOH Campaign Council, Lagos State. And our presence here today is also an affirmation of the fact that we believe we must move together because the child who attends a private school and the one who attends a public school will end up providing services for the goodness and wellness of the country and the state. So we keep all of them together and ensure the best is given,” Bamgboye said.
