My last decade as an actor: Ranbir Kapoor reveals directorial debut plans
Actor Ranbir Kapoor, who was recently seen as Lord Rama in director Nitesh Tiwari's epic, Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, revealed his directorial plans within the next two to three years. He mentioned that he has already begun scripting his first project behind the camera while managing his acting commitments.
In an interview with BBC Asian Network, Ranbir highlighted that he intends to step into filmmaking after completing his current line-up of acting projects.
He said, “I really want to get these films done (Brahmastra 2, Animal 2 and Ramayana Part 2), and really get on floors with my directorial debut within two or three years, I hope.” Reflecting on his career trajectory, the actor added, “I’ve never ever been so committed... But, I guess, it’s my last decade as an actor; will I get to play these parts? I do want to kind of pivot towards direction. I don’t want to direct myself for sure.”The actor explained that he started writing the script a few months ago, describing the experience as far more challenging than anticipated. Admitting that writing has given him a new appreciation for creators, Ranbir mentioned that while an actor’s high can be superficial, a director experiences a unique creative satisfaction in bringing a team together to tell a story. He emphasised that after a musician, it is the director who truly feels an unmatched creative high during the filmmaking process.Ranbir also outlined how he balances his schedule to focus on writing, pointing out that he works for around 100 to 125 days a year as an actor. Opening up about his preferred genre, the actor cited classics like Life is Beautiful, It's a Wonderful Life, and the cinema of filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani as his primary inspirations. He also opened up on his interest in directing a family drama that leaves the audience with a warm, feel-good experience.Ranbir's Ramayana: Rise of a Legend also features Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, Yash as Ravana, Arun Govil as king Dashrath, Indira Krishnan as queen Kaushalya, Lara Dutta as queen Kaikeyi and Rakul Preet Singh as Supranakha. The makers recently released the Hanuman Chalisa music video alongside the film's post-credits scene, introducing actor Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman.Ramayana: Rise of a Legend theatrically released on November 5, 2026.- EndsRead more | Ramayana review: Ranbir's Rama, Yash's Ravana in a spellbinding epic for the ages
