Mumbai man explores Japan's futuristic public toilet with voice-activated features

A content creator from Mumbai was left marvelling at a Japanese public toilet that seemed to have a solution for almost everything, from turning on the tap to unlocking the bathroom door with a QR code.

Sarthak Sachdeva, a content creator with more than 2 million followers, shared the video on Instagram, giving viewers a look at the unusually high-tech bathroom.

He began the clip by saying, “Come, let me show you how futuristic Japan's toilets are.” He then walked into the bathroom and simply said, “Turn on the sink,” after which water immediately began pouring from the tap.

He next stepped outside to show the toilet from the exterior. The bathroom was housed inside a dome-shaped structure, adding to its futuristic appearance.

Sachdeva then explained that anyone wanting to use the toilet had to scan a QR code, which would automatically unlock the door. The walls inside also displayed a list of commands in both Japanese and English, showing users how to operate the facilities.

By the end of the video, he summed up his amazement by declaring, “Japan is really living in the year 2057.”

His caption added another detail that caught attention: “You can play music while using it Japan is living in 2057.”

Viewers were equally fascinated by the setup. Some attributed the level of organisation to Japan's strict rules and regulations, while others discussed how similar systems and regulations could potentially improve public facilities in India.
