More than 80 tons of raw meat recalled as 'unsafe to eat'. See list - USA Today

More than 160,000 pounds of raw meat sold nationwide has been recalled for being "unsafe to eat," according to a Sept. 22 notice from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The more than 80 tons of raw pork, beef and goat were packaged and sold with fake USDA labels, according to FSIS, and were not actually properly inspected by the agency. As a result, the 167,639 pounds of recalled meat could be contaminated or contain undisclosed ingredients or allergens.

Star Meat Delivery Inc. initiated the recall after standard FSIS surveillance uncovered the false labels. While Star Meat produced the products, they were distributed by A&D Foods.

Federal officials are concerned the meat could be in the refrigerators or freezers of homes, restaurants or retailers. Here's what to know.

All recalled products were sold at various weights in cardboard boxes containing individually vacuum-packed meats. They all have a fake USDA inspection label with the establishment number “EST. 1363."

The meat was shipped in bulk. It may have been repackaged with different labels after reaching stores. They were distributed nationwide by A&D Foods.

Without the benefit of proper inspection, the meats could be unknowingly contaminated with harmful bacteria or substances, or have undeclared allergens and ingredients. Because of this, FSIS advises that they not be consumed and instead be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Food retailers and services should not sell or serve the meat. While FSIS has not received any reports of illness, anyone concerned about a related illness or injury should contact a healthcare provider.
