Meghan Markle Signed Book for Princess Eugenie Appears to Emerge on eBay - Newsweek
A book apparently signed by Meghan Markle and dedicated to Princess Eugenie, the daughter of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has been put up for sale on eBay for more than $26,000 "or best offer."
The book is a first edition of "The Bench," the Duchess of Sussex’s children's book published in 2021, which was inspired by the relationship between Prince Harry and their son, Archie.
In photos shared by the seller—described as a London-based professional bookseller specializing in signed and inscribed books—there is a dedication reading: "2021. Dear Eug & Jack, celebrating the special bond between father and son. I wrote this poem at Frogmore - I hope that Eug. you witness the same love there with your guys. All love, Megh."
Frogmore cottage is a smaller residence on the grounds of Windsor Castle that served as the Duke and Duchess' home from 2019 to 2020, before the couple left the United Kingdom to relocate to the United States.
Princess Eugenie moved into the cottage in November 2020 and left in 2022 after Harry and Meghan decided to renew their existing lease to occupy the property to March 2022. The couple officially vacated the cottage in 2023, when they were well-established in California.
The book is being sold for £19,999, the equivalent of roughly $26,426. The product has been viewed more than 16,000 times as of early Friday morning.
Newsweek contacted representatives for the Duchess of Sussex and Princess Eugenie for comment.
It is unclear why the book has now appeared for sale online if it is a genuine gift from Markle to Princess Eugenie. The two reportedly share a bond that survived Prince Harry and Markle’s rift with the royal family, as Harry has always been close to his cousin, who shares her life between Portugal and the family’s residence in London.
Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank had their first child in February 2021, the same year “The Bench” was published. Their son was named August.
The handwriting appearing on the copy of “The Bench” for sale on eBay matches examples of other documents signed by Markle. A note for "Not Skinny But Not Fat" podcast host Amanda Hirsch signed by the duchess in March 2025 and shared by People features the same exact signature and embellishments over the “Ts” and “Ds”.
The seller on eBay describes the book as “a completely unique, historically significant presentation copy of The Bench, featuring a spectacular handwritten inscription by the author, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
“Written in the Duchess’s highly celebrated, fluid signature calligraphy style, the personal message links the Sussexes directly to the heart of the British Royal Family.”
The product is described as “generally in decent order albeit with very slight creasing & marking to a few of the pages, spine slightly cocked & boards slightly warped & bowed, slight bumping & rubbing to board corners & to the top, bottom & sides of boards - heavier to the top & bottom of the spine & adjacent corners, elsewhere some marking, scratches & bumping to both boards & spine, the dust jacket has very slight internal yellowing & staining with creasing to the inside front blurb - most noticeably to the top right hand corner, externally the jacket is rubbed & creased at top & bottom with creasing elsewhere to both covers along with many marks & scratches.”
The seller does not explain how they came into possession of the book, saying only that “authentic intimate gifts sent from one member of the Royal Family directly to another are exceptionally rare to find on the open market.
“This book is thus a pinnacle piece for any serious royal memorabilia collector, autograph hunter, or contemporary archivist.”
Newsweek contacted the seller for comment via eBay.
