Activist Medha Patkar will release three books on social worker Devraj Urs award winner Shivaji Kaganikar in Belagavi on October 4.
Sarvodayacha Vatsaru, an autobiography in Marathi, Gudda Nadina Gandhi, a book in Kannada by Sharada Gopal, and Shivaji Kaganikar- a Sarvodaya worker and his grassroot experiences, by Gopal Dabde, will be released.
Belagavi-based Guruvarya V.G. Sathe Marathi Prabodhini and Marathi Development Institute of Mumbai will jointly organise the event at Gogte Auditorium in the school of culture in Belagavi camp area at 4 p.m. Rajeshwari Joshi of Jagruti Women’s group will speak about the Kannada book.
Friends and associates of Dr. Kaganikar held a meeting in Belagavi on Thursday. Subhash Aulkar, secretary, Prabodhini, said that through his long-standing social activism, Dr. Kaganikar had made significant contributions in the fields of water conservation, environmental protection, tree plantation, rural development, education, and sustainable development. He led a drive to encourage thousands of farm families install gobar gas plants in their houses. He also led individual and community water shed and afforestation projects. He said the books were being released to introduce Dr. Kaganikar’s ideology to the next generations.
He said that literary figures, social activists, environmentalists, and citizens from both Karnataka and Maharashtra were expected to participate in large numbers.
